Research Areas
Information Environments.
My work on information environments, conducted largely in partnership with the UW CIP and Clemson Hub, includes projects based in the U.S., South Africa, Lesotho, and Kenya, with a specific focus on elections.
Technology and Democracy.
My work on new technologies has revolved around their influence on politics. Primarily based in under-studied contexts, this includes projects on generative AI and work related to the deterrent effects of private security on voter turnout and public participation.
Authoritarian Communications.
My work on authoritarian and non-democratic politics involves research on signaling, turnout, and technology. This includes projects focused on Nicaragua’s 2021 General Election and the impact of arresting former leaders.
Politics and Popular Culture.
Sports, television, and music are often overlooked in academic research despite their outsized influence. My work on popular culture details how social and political phenomena distort these subjects as well as how they are interpreted.
